Absence-Lateness

Absence (including medical visits)

Sickness

Should a child become sick while at home, such that they will be kept off school we would ask that:-

  • The school be informed by telephone on the morning of the first day of absence
  • A letter confirming the illness / injury / reason for absence from school should be brought into school by the child on their first day back at school.
  • If a child is sick they are kept off school until clear of any sickness for 24 hours.

Visits to dentists, doctors etc during school time

Parents are asked to try to make appointments outside of school hours whenever possible. If an appointment during school time is necessary, please let the school know in advance, by telephone or a short note addressed to the class teacher. Children must always be collected by an adult from school as children are not allowed to leave the school premises alone during the school day. When picking up your child please obtain a pupil pass which should then be kept with you while out of school.

Lateness

Naturally, we hope that children will arrive at school on time and be registered in their classrooms at 8.50 a.m. On occasions when this is not possible we would always rather that a child was late than absent for the whole day. If a child arrives later than 9.00 a.m. they should enter school via the main entrance and inform the office, so that they can be entered on the attendance and lunchtime registers.

School Uniform

School Uniform

As a school we want the pupils to take pride in being part of the school. We therefore promote the wearing of a school uniform for all age groups. The recommended school uniform that we ask all parents to provide for their children consists of:-

  • White polo shirt with logo and Red sweatshirt with logo.

Polo shirts and sweatshirts, which have the school logo on, can be ordered directly from the school office. These are available in a variety of sizes. Current prices will be given at the time of order.

  • Dark trousers/skirt

These should be appropriate for school. Tracksuit bottoms or jeans for example are not recommended.
Footwear should be appropriate and sensible for school. High heels, backless sandals or platform soles for example are not suitable.

PE Kit

Children will also need a PE kit. Although each class will normally have PE on given days each week, we recommend that PE kits are kept at school to allow for changes at short notice. The recommended PE kit consists of:-

  • T Shirt
  • Shorts or leggings
  • PE Slippers or plimsolls

As you can appreciate most children's uniforms will be very similar to those of other children. We would therefore ask that all items being brought into school be clearly marked or named for ease of identification should anything get lost or simply mixed up. This should also be done for items such as coats, shoes and lunch boxes, even though they may be more easily identifiable to you, as it will still help the school.

Jewellery

When playing, running about or working it is all too easy for something to catch on an earring and cause a serious injury. The following should be noted:-

  • Studs only should be worn.
  • These must be removed for PE and games.

Staff are not permitted to remove earrings, so the child must be able to remove and replace their own earrings. A failure to be able to do this will preclude the child from that part of the curriculum.

  • Children are responsible for their own earrings, especially when they are not being worn.

School Dinners

School Dinners

School Meals

The school dinners are cooked on the premises. There is a main course, vegetables and puddings while salad, bread and fresh fruit are always available. We try to make lunch time a social occasion where we encourage politeness and good manners.
Dinner money should be paid either in advance or on a daily basis by cash or cheque (made out to Byron Wood Primary School). The school office can provide information for parents and carers who may be entitled to claim free school meals for their children.
Children who opt for a packed lunch will eat in the dining room along side their friends. We encourage all children to have a drink of water with their lunch.
Menus are available from the school and are on display through out school.

From September the price of school dinners will be:

£1.92 Per Day
£9.60 Per Week
